THE FIELDS of aesthetic medicine and
antiaging have been evolving so rapidly
that it can be diffi cult to keep up with
all of the new advances. In any given
week, a practice is bombarded with new
treatments, technologies and topicals that
promise to work better, faster and safer
than the ones that came before.
With technologies, practitioners can
look to FDA approval for evidence of
effi cacy, but when you move into the
world of cosmeceuticals, separating fact
from marketing hype becomes much
more diffi cult. Over-the-counter and even
physician-dispensed skincare lines rarely
seek FDA approval, and the studies behind
these products are often under-powered
and conducted by the suppliers themselves.
