Accutane (isotretinoin)
is considered the gold
standard for reducing
lesions in patients with
moderate-to-severe acne.
Its ability to inhibit sebum
production has provided
relief to many, but its
well-publicized—and
serious—side effects have
left the public and many
physicians wary of using the
drug. The good news for
dermatologists and skincare
specialists is that these
concerns have launched a
new wave of research that
includes devices, topicals
and injectables aimed at
finding a safe, non-systemic
option for sebum control.
