By Inga Hansen WITH SO MANY liposuction technologies currently on the market, discussion typically focuses on which devices offer the safest—and most effi cient—fat removal, and which allow for the best viability of transferred fat. Less often discussed is the impact that cannula selection has on the outcomes of both liposuction and fat harvesting. The key is fi nding a balance between effi cacy and control. "There is some fi nesse in choosing cannulas, and much of it has to do with personal preference," says Leslie Howard Stevens, MD, a plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, California. "That said, there are some disadvantages to using a wide diameter cannula, particularly in areas where you want to have strict control over the amount of fat you remove."
